I considered that you would be able to meet in the guildhall. Or in the battle isles which is accessible for both.

EDIT loviatar: you can tag them as being open or closed. If they are tagged as closed they are stored on the servers of blizzard, battlenet to be exact.

Fair enough.

Yes well you are free to answer as you did. I only posted them on a public forum because the person they were directed at, post on this same public forum.

While I stated that maybe the point concerning these facilities is not because they care (ergo out of the goodness of their heart) but because they do it all to guarantee their future sales by seeming to care for what their customers think. I would point towards this as an example of something where they don't care about their customers but state you don't like it, deal with it: http://forums.gwonline.net/showthrea...24#post4016924
The url isn't working when I click on it. Anyways if they do in fact state they don't care, well then I eat my words. However, they do a good job of seeming to care then. Even if that care is motivated for reasons other than I'd like to think. I don't call that greed though, I call it good business.

Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in that statement?

and this point was severely steered towards the point of you not being able to stomach to play diablo 2 online, a game which hasn't had a paid expansion for +- 4 years which still offers so many slots and lets you play the game offline as well as online the way you want it. while GW does not.
Yes but the games are so completely different. I fail to see how you can compare them. D2 requires no skill. Thus the need for so many character slots. Anyone can beat D2 on all 3 difficulties, while the majority of GW players have not completed the entire game with their current 4 slots. Yet that doesn't stop them from demanding more.

What disadvantages? There are no whatsoever disadvantages with merging, don't come say the slot issue, if yu have prophesies you have 4 slots, if you have factions you have 4 slots, if you merge them you get 6 slots and you get to travel between chanta and tyria as much as you like, if you only got factons you can only stay in chanta, if you only have prophesies you can only stay in tyria. Furher on it IS a stand alone game, anet/ncsoft has said so and who knows better than the developers themselves?

arent those slots stored on your hard drive subject to whatever hacking you want instead of on secure servers?
GW was made to be an online game ONLY, wheter you like it or not. While Diablo 2 was made as a single player game with multiplayer capability, monsters grow stronger and weaker as players enter and leave, but they can't be more than 8 at a time, as GW players can in outposts and towns. No, WoW doesn't pay for Diablo, Warcraft and starcraft servers, sponsors do. Intel is one sponsor. Diablo's characters are stored on your own harddrive, singleplayer characters as multiplayer characters alike, which became a huge problem, because you could easily change you character's attributes and items.

Anyway link has been fixed. Nor did i say that I find it bad, just that she ain't there just out of the goodness of their heart. Which I imho have nothing against, since for once that is bussiness.

The point of more characterslots is for me not the point about skill, since I consider that moot anyway. But because you want to experience the different problems from all sides. If you play through the game with a monk or a warrior it is an entirely different experience as it is different to play through diablo 2 with a druid or a warrior. On top of that the point about not being finished with another char doesn't matter seeing that on some occasions people just prefer playing character x or y, ergo i have moments that i prefer to play with my ele and nuke everything to smittereens (I know its somewhat exagerated seeing that i'm mostly outdmged by other stuff and preffered as a flashbot or warder) or moments that i prefer to stay back and concentrate on keeping my mates healthy or be the leader with my warrior and keeping aggro (or yelling killroy while heading into combat ) or... point is that I have the option to play as x or y so have the choice to play the role I am in the mood for in stead of being limitted in my choices. Playing a mm as an ele or monk sure is a lot harder or impracticle as a necro...

a)
faction = 4
prophecies is 4
4 + 4 = 8 != 6
b) storagespace which is also direclty related to characterslots
c) less new content then for the new person.
--> we already have access to 6 professions namely the coreprofessions. We already have access to certain skills. We already paid for some of the enemies within cantha (ergo some are mere copies of monsters in tyria which is a consequence of reusing graphics and making small alterations).
d) chapterwise buildup to me inherently implied access with your previous chars to future content and the general understanding of future chapters to be expansions for a previous owner. Not a necessity but an option to expand your game not use them seperately...
e) can go on even more... by for example losing the ability to be part of 2 guilds, one luxon other kurzich,...

I never stated that the game has no standalone abilities, but that doesn't mean that for people that already own a previous instalment it is a mere expansion. And just stating hey its x because y stated it is like that will not convince me to just blindly accept it.

Bottom line: People don't have to buy Factions to continue to play Guild Wars... that's the beauty of the system. We can pass on any Chapter that does not interest us, but yet are still able to play what we payed for.

I'm actually satisfied with the few sincere responses I got... I now understand why some people will not merge.

Thanks to all who participated!

More accurate...

Prophecies = 4 slots.
Factions = 0 slots... it hasn't been loaded. You have two choices. Load independant of Prophecies, then Factions = 4 slots.
Merge with Prophecies. You now have one game, massive content and two additional slots for a total of six full content slots.

Regarding storage space: unmerged, Prophecies has no additional storage space, Factions has same space as Prophecies. Merged, you get 100 additional storage slots.

Content. Get Factions alone, you have all the content of Factions. Is it more or less than Prophecies? We have no idea at this time. Merge accounts, you have all the content of Factions for any new characters Canthan born, and you Prophecies characters all get new content as well!

d) and e) don't even make sense.

As for expansion... whatever you want to call it is whatever. You can install separate and it's a whole new game. You install merged and you can call it either. Fact is you have a whole new game merged to your existing game.

Just to point out that link doesn't really prove anything. Its Gaile saying they refuse to nerf the favor system. So because they won't open up UW and FoW 24/7 to all regions, means they are uncaring? I don't think so. There would be alot more consequences to the game, if they did that, than just a few unhappy farmers. You call it uncaring, I call it a "smart move".
